lawmaker urges governors to renovate, reform policies on rehabilitation centres for destitutes

Oyo state governments have been urged to embark on massive rehabilitation of rehabilitation centers for to curb the increasing rate of destitution in the state
This advise was contained in the recommendation in a motion moved by Hon Oladeji Abimbola Olawumi  at the House of Assembly in Oyo state
Hon Oladeji noted that destitution is a syndrome which is more rampant among the young adults in major cities and towns thereby becoming an imposing visible threat to peace and security in Nigeria .
She also noted that “ the act of  destitution  has a lot to do with  societal socio-economic condition characterized by  low incomes, high unemployment  rates, fast rising  cost of living , high rates of population growth, inappropriate  public policies, death of parents, guardians, continued  urban-rural migration  and lack of gainful employment’.
While advising the government on how to reduce the menace of destitution in the society, Hon Oladeji who is also the chairman House committee on women affairs said   the government should ensure that a functional and effective rehabilitation programme which will include training, workshops  and formal educational opportunities  is put in place.
She added that government should also engage the services of counselors and social workers who have the skill and professional expertise in behaviourial modification to work on the personality of the destitute rehabilitation centers to make them better persons.
The speaker of he House Hon Michael Adeyemo in his remark commended Hon Oladeji for her motion and promise that the house will go into full deliberation with a view of solving the problem of destitute   very soon
