He said though NIPOST has already make a mark by creating an enviable postal services records in the comity of nations and among member nations of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), he will ensure that the Agency further attain best practices in tandem with international standards.
The minister in a solidarity message at the recently concluded 26th Congress of the Universal Postal Union held in Istanbul, Turkey, promised government’s commitment to reposition the postal services.
“I wish to convey to this distinguished gathering our unalloyed commitment to the repositioning of the postal services in Nigeria to meet the standards and aspirations of the Union”, he said.
This, he said, is in line with the vision of the new administration in Nigeria, ably and courageously ld by President Buhari of “focusing on positive change in all facets of the Nigerian landscape”.
Shittu further said,” as the Minister in charge of postal affairs in Nigeria, I want to assure you that I would do my utmost to ensure the rapid transformation of the postal service into a developmental tool for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals as set by the United Nations.
He expressed the optimism that the management of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) under the new Post-Master General, Barrister Bisi Adegbuyi will cooperate maximally with him in repositioning NIPOST and make it a cash cow that is capable of generating income to the coffers of the Federal Government.
The minister congratulated Cote D’ivorie for taking on the responsibility to host the World Postal Congress in 2020, while he promised the support and cooperation of Nigeria.
