Our members are living under perpetual fear of death in Ekiti - Speaker

The Ekiti State House of Assembly has alleged that its members are being targeted for assassination by members of the opposition aided by a suspended members of the House, Gboyega Aribisogan.

This was revealed at a press conference addressed by the Speaker of the House, Right Honourable (Pastor) Kola Oluwawole at the House complex on Tuesday.

A number of the members of the House confessed to having been trailed, at different times, by a Volkswagen Golf marked EKITI ADK 167.

According to the Speaker, “It is very important to inform the press the incessant threat to the lives of some honourable members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, particularly the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Pastor Kola Oluwawole; Hon. (Dr.) Samuel Omotoso, Hon.  Dayo Akinleye, Hon. Jeje Samuel and Hon. Fajana Ojoade.
“In the last few days, a certain red Volkswagen Golf with registration number ADK 167 has been used by some unidentified men to trial our members.

The said honourables have been living under perpetual fear of death.

“Hon (Dr.) Omotoso was trailed from Bank road to Textile – Basiri Road, Ado-Ekiti on Monday, October 17th, 2016 by this Volkswagen Golf, while the same car was also seen trailing the Rt. Hon. Speaker at Ori Apata, Opposite School of Nursing, Ado-Ekiti the same day.

“We have discovered that a fresh onslaught is to be unleashed on the House of Assembly because of our refusal to cooperate with external forces that are desirous of removing our governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose. In charge of this current onslaught on the House of Assembly is a certain Otunba Yinka Akerele, in collaboration with by the suspended member of the House, Gboyega Aribisogan, and others.

“Having tried all they could to lure or coerce members of the House of Assembly into their evil plot to impeach the governor, their plan is now to assassinate some of our members, with a view to conducting by-elections into their seats and rig the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the House through the back door.

“It is in view of the need for our safety, especially bearing in mind the importance of the legislative arm of government to the substance of democracy, vis-a-vis the over 10 political assassinations witnessed during the four years of the APC government of Dr. Kayode Fayemi, that we call on security agencies to conduct proper investigation into this matter.

“It should be placed on record that Chief Omolafe Aderiye was murdered simply because he led other right-thinking Ekiti sons and daughters to resist the clandestine plot to prevent Governor Fayose from being sworn in, despite his overwhelming victory in the June 21, 2014 election.

“However, we wish to reiterate our commitment to the development of Ekiti State, which is being championed by our committed Governor Ayodele Fayose and we state that no amount of intimidation and harassment will make us join the enemies of Ekiti, whose only interest is to grab power for their personal gains. Threat to our lives won’t shake us.
