Security: AIG warns policemen against checking vehicle particulars as Ajimobi pledges support for police

The Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police in Charge of Zone 11 comprising Oyo, Osun and Ondo states,Dan Bature, has warned police officers against checking vehicle particulars, saying any policeman doing that is on illegal duty.

AIG Bature said policemen did not have to perform traffic functions,adding that the duty of the police was not to check vehicle particulars but to ensure safer roads.

Speaking during a two-day familiarization visit to Oyo State at the Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele,Ibadan,today      the AIG said safety did not include checking particulars.

Speaking on public perception of the police,the police chief said the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) was committed to changing the negative image of the police and supporting the anti-corruption war of the Federal Government.
"A lot was expected by the public from the police, adding that this informed the monitoring of officers".

Earlier, the state Commissioner of Police,Sam Adegbuyi, said the achievements recorded so far were made possible by the synergy of the people and government of the state.

CP Adegbuyi said in view of the population of the state, the command needed to create three more Area Commands in addition to the existing four commands.

He commended the AIG, Oyo government and the Police Community Relation Committee for the successes recorded so far in the fight against crime.

Thereafter,the AIG paid a visit to Governor Abiola Ajimobi at his office.

The Oyo state governor Abiola Ajimobi pledged continued support,patronage and understanding to make the police effective and achievement-oriented.

The governor described AIG Dan Bature as an accomplished police officer in the zone known for sophistication.

Ajimobi stated that the foundation of the pyramid of his administration is  adequate security and safety of the people. 

"We formed a joint taskforce to tackle the challenge of security. Since the formation of the taskforce, the state has made noticeable achievements which made the state one of the safest states in Nigeria", he said.

Responding, AIG Bature said security was paramount emphasizing that development is largely predicated on security. "We ensure that Oyo State is well secured",he concluded
